Minutes:

1. Jack Delman informed the group that he had a new list of ACCAS members. He will send the list to the member schools. John Schober reviewed the list to see who was up to date with their dues. A new school to the association in the DR named, Mi Colegio, will be charged their dues as of sy 2002-2003. The current association includes 9 schools from the DR, 10 schools from Colombia, 1 school from Ecuador, 1 school from Haiti, and 1 school from Venezuela for a total of 22 schools.

2. The next item discussed was the development of the new website for the association. Jack Delman and Michael Adams will be organizing the new site. There is a sum of US $5,000 that was approved at the last meeting in New Orleans for the purpose of the development of this site.

Susan Barba suggested that she speak with Mary Virginia Sanchez about her opinion of the Tri-Association webmaster in order to possibly speak with him about developing the ACCAS site. Susan will contact Jack and Michael when she has more information from Mary Virginia.

The group brainstormed ideas and areas that should be included on the future site:

• List of member schools
• Websites (links) to member schools
• Addresses and contact information for member schools
• ACCAS bylaws (John Schober will look for these)
• ACCAS Mission (This needs to be developed at the next meeting)
• Association Activities
• History of ACCAS
• Peer Learning Lists and Contacts
• AD Athletic Activities Procedure Manual (Colombia)
• Resources – Information about member countries
• Map of region
• Links to Tri-Association, ISS, Search, Queens University,
   AAIE, UNI
• Minutes from meetings

Jack Delman will also talk to ASOMEX to see if they have a site and find out who helps them maintain it.

2nd option for webmaster – another person via internet connection.

3. Professional Development

• The schools from the Dominican Republic are planning on bringing down James Fitzpatrick on April 1st. St. Michaels will pay for 50% of the cost because they are reserving 50 spots. ACCAS will cover the other 50% of the cost of the conference. There will be about 50 additional spots to be divided up between the other ACCAS schools. This works out to be approximately 2 staff members per school if all schools participate.

• ACCAS will support all non-DR schools $250 per teacher, up to two teachers, if they decide to participate.

• It was pointed out that this ACCAS support is a general rule for all ACCAS professional development events. If non-host country schools wish to attend an ACCAS sponsored event, each non-host country school will be eligible for $250 dollars per teacher up to two teachers.

• If any non-host country schools are interested in sending staff members to James Fitzpatrick’s workshop, Jack Delman will see if he can find teacher housing.

• Regarding future professional development, it was decided that Jack Delman would talk with Virginia Rojas about presenting to the region in the area of ESL. The idea will be for her to first present to the directors at a special session during the next SACS meeting and then to the teachers in the region during the sy 2002-2003.

• It was also decided that PD proposal requests be sent out by the President to all member schools. Michael Adams will write a draft to be shared with Jack Delman for approval.

• Ideas for additional, future PD:
1. Virginia Rojas – ESL
2. Janie Pollack – Curriculum
3. Marcy Cook – Math
4. Peter Hilts – Technology
5. Don Jacobs – Technology
6. Science for secondary – name??

4. John Schober mentioned to the group that the ACCAS account was being charged a percentage on monies earned as interest. Jack Delman asked if there was any way to avoid this charge by claiming a certain type of exemption as an educational, non-profit organization.

5. It was decided that additional names needed to be added to the ACCAS account for check signing and management purposes. It was decided that the names of Jack Delman, Michael Adams and Laura Horbal be added to the account. Dr. Schober will ask for a signature card in order to register the new names in the near future.

6. Next ACCAS meeting: Tri-Association meeting in Guadalajara, MX in October

RE: Professional Development Proposals
Hello to all. We hope this memo finds you all doing well after the recruiting season. During our last ACCAS meeting in Washington, DC following the ISS recruitment fair, it was decided that we request proposals for professional development seminars or conferences for the upcoming 2002-2003 school year.

ACCAS would like to facilitate and support professional development in the region as one of its strong priorities within its mission. Member schools interested in sponsoring professional development seminars or workshops on their own campus should consider the following factors as they develop their proposals:

1. The school hosting the event will pay for 50% of the seminar or conference costs (Fees for the person giving the conference, travel expenses for the person giving the conference, room and board for the person giving the conference).

2. ACCAS will pay for the other 50% of these costs.

3. A minimum of 50% of the spots available for the conference will be reserved for the school hosting the conference.

4. Non-host country schools attending the conference will receive ACCAS financial support of $250 for each teacher (up to two teachers) attending the conference.

5. Host country schools will not receive financial support from ACCAS for teachers attending the conference.

Proposals should be submitted to Jack Delman by June 1st. If you have any questions regarding your proposals or this memo, please feel free to contact either Jack Delman or Michael Adams.

THANK YOU!!
